ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Shortly after Kurdish security authorities in Erbil announced on Tuesday the arrest of two suspects behind Saturday’s attack on the Rudaw headquarters and the claim of responsibility by the Islamic State (ISIS), the international TV network ENEX condemned the attack, saying ISIS fears media outlets that provide a professional coverage of the news.
Head of the news department at ENEX, Mark Evans told Rudaw that his network condemns the attack, praising Rudaw for “having won an audience in Kurdistan and around the world,”
“Rudaw has our sympathy and full support for your professional work,” said Evans.
Rudaw joined ENEX in May 2015. Members of the Europe-based network exchange content such as daily news videos and other exclusive footage and the association makes satellite capacity accessible to all its members.
According to the ENEX website, the members of the network contribute more than 25,000 news items per year to the content exchange that is facilitated by the Coordination Center in Luxembourg.
Rudaw has in the last three years been a major source of news and information on the Middle East and through partnerships with foreign networks its coverage has reached people in every corner of the globe.
“Your staff are brave and do their work professionally,” said Evans. “Therefore you have everyone’s support.”
The ENEX news chief said that Rudaw has become a means of informing the outside world of the war and turmoil in the Middle East.
Evans added that since the attack on Rudaw was for its reliable coverage of the news the network must keep its objectivity and become better every day, advising Rudaw reporters “to stay safe in a region where journalists are facing grave risks.”
