HDP rep claims 3 civilians killed in gov’t raid in Silopi
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Three people have reportedly been killed in clashes between Turkish police and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the town of Silopi in Turkey’s southeastern Sirank province on Saturday.
Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) parliamentarian Ferhad Encu on his twitter account announced that Turkish police attacked a house in Silopi and killed three young Kurdish civilians.
“After killing three young men, fighting between PKK fighters and Turkish police has intensified and civilians have left because of the ongoing clashes,” Encu said.
Rudaw has learned that gunfire and sporadic fights can be heard from inside the town.
The Turkish government reignited a war with the PKK after the rebels claimed responsibility for the deaths of two police officers in late July. The fighting has ended a 2013 ceasefire that was meant to resolve a three-decade conflict in which some 40,000 people were killed.
