Lack of traffic signs makes it difficult to navigate cameras on Sulaimani-Dukan road
SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region - Twenty-four point-to-point have been installed on the road between Sulaimani and Dukan since Monday.
Those who exceed the speed limit will be fined but most drivers complain that there are not enough traffic signs on the road informing of the change in the speed limit.
Some of the drivers told Rudaw’s Horvan Rafaat on Monday that whenever they drive on this road, they do not know how to avoid fines due to the lack of signs.
“I drove at 60 km/h from Sulaimani to Dukan in an hour and 40 minutes because there are no speed limit signs,” Rahel Salar, a truck driver from Sulaimani, said.
The distance between Sulaimani and Tasluja is 45 kilometers and 12 point-to-point cameras have been installed in each direction.
“The road is very empty. It used to be crowded on Thursdays and Fridays, but since they said the cameras are working, people have been traveling very little,” Awat Mawlood said.
Sulaimani’s traffic spokesperson has said that authorities are working to install warning signs along the road near the speed cameras.
Rudaw contacted the Sulaimani Traffic Department and the company responsible for setting them up but they declined to disclose the number of drivers punished since the cameras were installed.
