Friday is the first day of Eid
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Friday is the first day of Eid al-Fitr, KRG authorities have announced.
Thursday is the first day of five days of Eid holidays in the Kurdistan Region.
The head of UN’s mission in Iraq extended his best wishes to Iraqis on the holiday.
“Eid-ul-Fitr is a time of joy and celebration as Muslims are marking the end of their fasting during the holy month of Ramadan,” said Jan Kubis.
“My best wishes to all Muslims in particular and to all the people of Iraq, in general, on this joyous occasion. Eid Mubarak,” he concluded.
The Iraqi president Fuad Masum has also extended his congratulations to the nation, issuing a message of unity and coexistence.
“On the occasion of the forthcoming holy Eid al-Fitr, I extend the warmest congratulations and best wishes to the sons of the Iraqi people, including all of its components,” reads a published statement from the president.
He saluted the armed forces for their victory against terrorism and commended the nation for overcoming “exceptionally difficult circumstances.”
Looking to the future, he called on all Iraqis to stick together and look for ways to resolve issues through “more understanding and positive dialogue, and abstaining from division.”
He highlighted the importance of protecting the country’s water resources and strengthening its regional and international standing.
