PUK co-founder Adil Murad dies

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The co-founder of the PUK and head of the party’s central council, Adil Murad passed away, on Friday in Germany where he was receiving medical treatment.

“On this sad day, we extend our condolences to his family, friends, people on the whole, especially the fans of the PUK. We reiterate our vow to continue his sacred path,” read a statement released by PUK’s central council.

Murad was born on December 11, 1949, in Khanaqin. He completed his undergraduate studies at Baghdad University and started his political career at a young age.

He was head of PUK’s media bureau for a few years and was Iraq’s ambassador to Romania for four years.

He also served as the PUK’s representative in Damascus for some time.

Murad along with deceased leaders, Jalal Talabani and Nawshirwan Mustafa, and current Iraqi President Fuad Masum, established the PUK on June 1, 1975, in the Syrian capital.
