First Hijabi fashion show in Erbil on eve of Ramadan
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – An Erbil-based company has organized what they called the first fashion show for veiled women, Hijabis, in the Kurdistan Region on Friday.
The women-only event was held on the eve of Islam’s holy month of Ramadan. Some women, who do not usually cover, choose to wear hijab during the month.
One of the organizers said that the event is intended to offer fashion advice to Kurdish Hijabis, guiding them in choices of colour and design.
She said that while it is the first ever such fashion show in Kurdistan, they would like to hold an annual event exclusive for Hijabi women.
Gully Areza, the company organizing the event, was founded in 2013 in Erbil and has grown in popularity. It says their success comes from the fact that they have all-women staff serving women customers only.
They provide Islamic clothing, everything from the headscarf to hijab to wedding services. It also has a woman photographer.
