President Masoud Barzani, Syria's Sharaa discuss regional unrest
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - President Masoud Barzani and Syria's interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa spoke on the phone on Sunday, discussing the latest developments in the Middle East.
"During the phone conversation, they exchanged views on the situation in the region, the latest developments and changes, and their impact on regional stability, as well as the risks of escalating tensions. Both sides also stressed the importance of resolving the region’s issues and crises through dialogue and peaceful means," read a statement from Barzani's office.
Barzani is the leader of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), the most powerful political party in the Kurdistan Region.
The Syrian presidency said Sharaa "stressed the importance of strengthening coordination and cooperation in a way that contributes to resolving various regional crises through peaceful means and dialogue."
The call comes as Iran's war with US and Israel is escalating following the killing of Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei.
