Kuwait Red Crescent gives $200m for refugee aid

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region- The international committee of Kuwait Red Crescent Society and the Barzani Charity Foundation have launched a joint campaign to aid refugees and displaced people in the Kurdistan.

A delegation from the Kuwait consulate in Erbil and Kuwait Red Crescent Society visited the Barzani Charity Foundation on Sunday. 

According to an official at the foundation, the Kuwait Red Crescent donated $200 million to help ease the refugee crisis in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. The latest figures on refugees and internally displaced people in Kurdistan puts the number at near to 2 million. The UN estimated at least 3 million people are homeless or displaced across Iraq due to the war against the Islamic State. 

The Barzani foundation has been working with the Red Crescent to provide food, supplies and other humanitarian aid to refugees.    

Last week, the Barzani charity agreed to cooperate with the United Arab Emirates in a campaign to aid one million refugees and displaced people in the Kurdistan region by providing food and health supplies.
