ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A high-level security delegation, including Iraqi national security advisor and Kurdistan Region’s interior minister, arrived in Tehran on Monday.
Iraqi National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji’s office said he is leading a “high-level security delegation” which arrived in the Iranian capital on Monday. No additional details about the visit have been disclosed.
Reber Ahmed, Kurdistan Region’s interior minister, is also seen in the photos published by Araji’s office.
Iraqi and Iranian security delegations have held similar meetings in the past as part of a security agreement between both sides.
In March 2023, Iraq and Iran signed a security pact that saw Baghdad agree to disarm Kurdish opposition groups and secure the border areas. Tehran had previously warned it would resort to military measures if Baghdad failed to fulfill the agreement.
The delegations met in Tehran on November 11 last year.
“The meeting reviewed aspects of the joint security agreement between the two countries and the details of its implementation, in addition to discussing ways to strengthen security and political cooperation between Baghdad and Tehran,” Araji’s office said in a statement at the time.
