Suicide bombers strike mosque in Yemen, kill 15

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Twin explosions in a mosque in the Yemeni capital Sanaa killed at least 15 worshippers and wounded dozens more in apparent suicide bombings, local media outlets reported Thursday.

The blasts targeted Al-Balili Mosque in the Al-Safya district on the first day of the Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday.

Reports said the two suicide attackers blew themselves up among a crowd. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

According to some news agencies, the Al-Balili Mosque is run by Shiite Houthis.

Since March 2015, Yemen has been caught up in a war between different local groups, Saudi Arabia and its allies, following the Houthi-led ouster of Saudi-backed President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.
