ISIS spokesperson Adnani killed in Aleppo

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—Islamic State (ISIS) spokesperson, Abu Muhammad al-Adnani has been killed in Aleppo, ISIS confirmed through its associated news agency, Amaq.

Adnani was the militant group’s spokesperson and propaganda chief. He was reportedly recently made head of ISIS’ intelligence division with command over a hierarchy of lieutenants charged with carrying out attacks around the world, according to an investigation by the New York Times published earlier this month.

The Times reported that Adnani coordinated terror attacks in conjunction with propaganda of the attacks, including promoting gruesome videos of ISIS atrocities.

Adnani, 39, whose birth name was Taha Sobhi Falaha, was born in Binnish, near Idlib, northern Syria.

He fought against the US in Iraq and is believed to have been captured and held at Camp Bucca, where he met with Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of ISIS.

It was Adnani who made the public statement in June 2014 renaming ISIS as the Islamic State and declaring Baghdadi as caliph.

There was a $5 million bounty on his head.

It is not known when he was killed.
