US air strikes kill planners of Paris attacks
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – US-led airstrikes have killed at least 10 Islamic State figures in Iraq and Syria some of whom were connected to Paris attack, a US spokesman said.
“Over the past month, we’ve killed 10 ISIL leadership figures with targeted air strikes, including several external attack planners, some of whom are linked to the Paris attacks,” Reuters has quoted US Army Colonel Steve Warren on Wednesday as saying.
Abdul Qader Hakim, the ISIS leader who facilitated the Paris attacks, was among those killed by US-led forces, said the US Colonel.
He added that Hakim was killed in the ISIS stronghold of Mosul on Dec.26.
Warren said only two days earlier the US forces had conducted airstrike in Syria and killed Charaffe al Mouadan, another ISIS militia with direct links to the suspected leader of the November attacks in Paris, Abdulhamid Abaaoud.
Mouadan was planning more attacks against the West, Warren said.
"Part of those successes is attributable to the fact that the organization is losing its leadership," he said.
The killing of these ISIS leaders is another blow to the group this month after it was driven out of Ramadi by Iraqi forces.
