ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - On the fifth day of the US-Israeli war with Iran, an increasing number of Iranian military and security bases in the eastern areas of the country, known as Rojhelat for the Kurds, were targeted.

The strikes have expanded to include several cities where military bases and headquarters had not previously been bombed.

According to information obtained by Rudaw, some high-ranking military commanders and officers have moved into civilian residential areas. Reports from several cities in western Iran’s Kurdish majority areas indicate that senior commanders and ranked officers have evacuated their bases and relocated elsewhere.

Sources also suggest that portions of the military forces have been stationed within sports halls, event venues, schools, and health centers. Military bases are now primarily occupied by lower-ranking soldiers and personnel.

Follow-up reports indicate that during the first five days of the war in Rojhelat, the US and Israel have targeted regular army bases less frequently, focusing instead on the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Border Guards, and Intelligence bases. Within the army bases, the specific targets have been air defense units and missile launch sites.

The following is a breakdown of the bombings across the five provinces of Rojhelat from Tuesday midnight until late Wednesday:

West Azerbaijan province

On Wednesday night, several security and military bases inside the Kurdish city of Bukan were targeted. According to information shared on social media, one of the targeted locations was the Intelligence base in Bukan. The area surrounding the mayor's office of the city was also hit.

Israeli and US aircraft are continuously bombing targets within the city of Urmia. One of the locations reportedly bombed on Wednesday was the cyber police command center of Urmia, though this has not been officially confirmed.

Media outlets close to the IRGC confirmed the bombing of the airport, several buses at a terminal, Taleghani hospital, and several targets within Urmia’s residential neighborhoods. Within the city, the heaviest strikes were directed at targets on 7th of Tir (Pushpar) Street. Several buses were hit at the Urmia terminal, but the number and identities of the passengers remain unknown.

Official Iranian media also reported that two vehicles were targeted near the Urmia industrial area, resulting in the deaths of nine people.

On the fifth day of the war, military and security bases in Sardasht were targeted for the first time. Confirmed reports state that the IRGC military camp command - known as the Jundullah corps - and IRGC Intelligence in the city were hit. Additionally, on Wednesday morning, the main headquarters of the IRGC Intelligence Agency in Naghadeh was bombed.

Kurdistan province

Within the city of Sanandaj, the capital city of the province, from Tuesday midnight until Wednesday morning, several houses and buildings in the Qishlaq neighborhood were bombed multiple times.

According to photos published on local social media, several houses and buildings in that neighborhood were destroyed. Official media in Sanandaj province claim these were civilian residences, but according to those who shared photos and videos of the strike, the targeted locations were military bases.

Yahya Elahi, the police commander of Sanandaj, issued a public appeal through the media urging citizens not to approach bombed sites after an attack. He stated that some of the missiles used in the strikes might explode again minutes or hours later.

On Wednesday afternoon, targets in the village of Nanale, on the outskirts of Sanandaj, were also bombed.

In Baneh, at least two IRGC camps inside and around the city were bombed, one of which is known as the IRGC command center for that city. Early on Wednesday, the army camp in Soghanan was targeted; following the strike, sounds of explosions and thick plumes of smoke were seen rising from the site.

Kermanshah province

On Wednesday morning, a target near Oil Square inside Kermanshah city was bombed. News sources in Kermanshah state that the bombed location was the provincial intelligence directorate, though this has not been confirmed.

State media in Kermanshah province confirmed the bombing of several military bases within the city and claimed that health centers were among the locations hit. On Wednesday evening, the IRGC's Sabitkha camp in the city of Gilan-e Gharb in Kermanshah province was bombed several times.

Lorestan province

In Khorramabad, Lorestan, the main air defense base of the Iranian army was targeted. The public relations office of the 84th Lorestan Division of the Iranian army stated that four air defense officers were killed in the attack. Previously, the deaths of five other officers from that force had been announced.

On Wednesday, the Lorestan police command issued a statement denying that police bases in the province had been targeted, claiming there is a "targeted project to create unrest and instability in Lorestan province."

Ilam province

On Thursday, the border guard command of Mehran, known as the Bahramabad base, was bombed again. Ilam border guard officials told official media that the attack caused no casualties but resulted in significant damage to the headquarters.

Government and military authorities in Rojhelat and across Iran have not released comprehensive data on the targeted sites or the number of casualties, leaving the overall death toll unclear. Those killed are reported to include both members of the security forces and civilians.
