Iran's Khamenei: Even if you don't approve of me come out and vote
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei called upon all Iranians on Saturday, whether they approve of his rule or not, to turnout to vote for the upcoming elections next month.
"As before, we insist everyone, even those who don't believe in the system and the leadership, come to the ballots, as the elections belongs to the nation, and the system," Khamenei said according to AFP.
Iranians will vote on 290 lawmakers for the country's parliament (majlis) as well as select 88 members for the Assembly of Experts, a clerical body which will, after Khameini dies, be responsible for deciding who will be the next Supreme Leader, the most powerful man in Iran.
"That day, when the current leader is not in this world, this committee should choose a leader who holds the key to the movement of this revolution," the incumbent Supreme Leader explained, "Depending on the composition of the assembly they may choose a leader that stands up to the enemy's attacks, trust in God and continue the path of Imam [Ruhollah Khomeini]."
Khamenei is known to have cancer, how serious or life-threatening it is however is not clear. He was the successor of the founder of the current Iranian regime, Ayatollah Khomeini passed away in 1989.
