Iran is abiding by nuclear deal: watchdog

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Iran is abiding to the nuclear deal, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) stated in its eleventh report since the 2015 agreement.

"The IAEA provided its latest report on the 2015 Iran deal to the IAEA council, saying that Iran has fully met its commitments," Reza Najafi, Iran's representative to the IAEA, told IRNA on Thursday.

This is the first report on the deal since US President Donald Trump on May 9 announced America’s withdrawal and intention to re-impose sanctions on Iran.

Iranian officials stated that they will abide by the deal if the remaining parties – China, Russia, France, Germany, and Britain – do not withdraw. European leaders have announced that they will do their best to salvage the deal.

Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, on Wednesday announced several demands he wants to see from European leaders including guarantees they continue trade ties and stay out of Iran's regional activities.

The remaining parties of the deal will meet in Vienna on Friday to discuss possible ways to salvage the deal. Helga Schmid, deputy secretary general of the European External Action Forces, will chair the meeting and Abbas Araqchi, political deputy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will head the Iranian delegation.

Iran and the remaining partners have about three months to find a solution that will keep the deal in place.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stated this week that Iran will face "unprecedented sanctions" if it doesn’t stop its atomic program, end its interference in regional countries, and cut off its support for terrorist groups in Lebanon and Palestine.

On Thursday, the US Treasury announced news sanctions targeting Iran’s air industry.

The Iranian and Turkish companies and individuals sanctioned “have been procuring parts and providing services for the fleets of sanctions Iranian airlines, including Mahan Air, Caspian Air, Meraj Air, and Pouya Air. In so doing, they extend a lifeline to the IRGC-QF [Revolutionary Guards-Quds Force] and enable the Iranian regime to transport weapons, fighters, and money to its proxies, including Hizballah, and to prop up the brutal Assad regime” in Syria, said Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.
