PDKI Peshmerga wounded in clashes with Iranian forces dies of his injuries

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—A Peshmerga with the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI), wounded in clashes with Iranian forces earlier this week, died of his injuries on Saturday, the PDKI reported.

Clashes erupted between the PDKI Peshmerga and Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in the Mokrian region of Iranian Kurdistan on September 18. “Unfortunately, Rahim Abdullahnejad, a brave Peshmerga who was severely injured during the clashes, lost his life today,” the PDKI confirmed in a statement posted on its website on Saturday.

The PDKI’s Peshmerga Forces Operational Command stated that more than 10 Iranian soldiers were killed or injured during the confrontation.

Across the border in the Kurdistan Region the day before, Iranian forces had shelled the Sidakan area. A drone was spotted in the area on the morning of September 17 and Rudaw’s reporter on the ground, Bakhtyar Qadir, reported that gunfire could be heard.

Iran has shelled Kurdish areas inside Kurdistan Region on several occasions, with the pretext of the presence of armed Kurdish groups on its border.
