Mosul resistance: ISIS hurt by lack of doctors
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A member of Mosul's underground militia movement said Wednesday the lack of medical treatment for wounded Islamic State fighters has been a heavy blow to the extremists.
Mohammed Baaj, a senior member with the resistance group known as the Free Officers Movement, told Rudaw the Islamic State, or ISIS, must transfer seriously wounded fighters to the group's facilities in Syria.
"The lack of professional doctors and medical treatment, especially in the hospitals in Mosul, have put wounded Islamic State in danger. However, the residents are also suffering from the lack of medical treatment and they are in need of urgent help,” said Baaj.
Baaj said the rate of injured ISIS fighters has increased with the recent fighting and the increased demand for treatment has outpaced the group's medical capabilities.
“Seriously wounded ISIS fighters have been transferred to the areas under Islamic State control in Syria, but due to the lack of treatment in Syria, they have been returned to Mosul in serious danger,” Baaj said.
