Coalition airstrikes kill 9 foreign ISIS militants in Mosul

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Coalition airstrikes killed nine foreign ISIS militants in west Mosul, the Iraqi war media cell announced late Friday night.

Seven ISIS foreign fighters, including their leader, were killed in an airstrike. They include five Saudi citizens, one Jordanian, and one Bahraini.

The leader was identified as a Saudi citizen, Abu Abdul Rahman al-Ansari.

Coalition airstrikes also killed the ISIS leader responsible for improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Nineveh, the war media cell detailed. He was identified as a Moroccan, Abu Hamza. His driver, also a Moroccan, was also killed.

A Canadian ISIS militant reportedly carried out a suicide bombing in the Wadi Hajar neighbourhood of west Mosul this week. ISIS identified the suicide bomber as Abu Maliha al-Canadi. A media outlet affiliated with the extremist group, al-Amaq, claimed that three Iraqi soldiers were killed in the bombing.

Iraqi forces announced Friday that they had retaken Wadi Hajar neighbourhood.

The coalition estimates that there are about 7,000 ISIS militants in Iraq, with around 2,000 of them in and around Mosul. Of those, foreign fighters number about 10 percent.
