ISIS fighters in Mosul lack command, direction, money
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – There are serious problems inside ISIS in Mosul, between foreign commanders and local fighters, contributing to the group’s loss in initiative and capability in the city, said the spokesperson of the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service (ICTS).
“There is no main source for command, there is no one direction for giving command,” Sabah al-Numan told Rudaw English on Friday evening, adding that the local fighters left behind in the city are afraid and not receiving support from the leadership.
“The main leaders, they are foreign leaders, they withdrew before and kept the local fighters. And those they are very afraid and they don’t have money because ISIS leaders stopped paying their monthly salary.”
Numan’s statement confirmed an earlier report from the Mosul Eye, a historian from the city who has extensive sources in Mosul and reports on conditions there. “Inside ISIL source: no more salaries for the fighters in Mosul,” he stated on Wednesday.
The militants’ numbers are decreasing day-by-day, Numan detailed, adding that Iraqi and coalition forces are essentially in control of all major routes within the city.
