Twin explosions reported in Baghdad’s Sadr City

BAGHDAD – An explosion in Baghdad's al-Sadr district killed at least seven people.

Initial reports indicated there were two explosions and a Shiite mosque was the target while security officials said there was an explosion at an arms depot near the mosque.

"An arms depot exploded," said Baghdad's security operations command, which has opened an investigation into the incident at the depot that housed heavy weapons that belonged to an armed group.

AFP reported that seven were killed and 22 injured.

Sadr City is a stronghold of Muqtada al-Sadr, whose alliance won Iraq’s parliamentary elections last month.
