A kaleidoscope of opinions about Iraqi PM Abadi
This report is a range of pinions from politicians and ordinary Iraqis about Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi who is running for parliament as head of the al-Nasr (victory) list. While most politicians stick to pointing out facts about Abadi, many Iraqis remain skeptical and don’t think much would change after the upcoming elections on May 12.
Abadi rides on the back of his army’s victory against ISIS in Mosul and elsewhere in the country. He came to prominence when in 2014 his predecessor Nouri al-Maliki was forced to step down. However, Abadi has been a major figure in the Shiite Dawa Party and he has held ministerial and other positions since the removal of Saddam Hussein’s regime in 2003.
