Coffee drips back into liberated Mosul

As areas of Mosul are liberated, life is slowly returning to normal. One such comfort is the simple drink of coffee, which was forbidden under ISIS' interpretation of Islamic law.

"They (ISIS) told us it's 'haram,' it's the dance of the devil. We didn't work much then," Abu Amaar a coffee vendor of 10 years told Rudaw.

Many Moslawis prefer to spice their coffee with cardamom. The vendors say they would gladly share their brand of coffee with other Iraqi cities if permitted by security forces.

Women, who were required by ISIS to cover their faces under a niqab, are now also able to purchase coffee in Mosul.
