Nearly 80 percent of Iraqi security forces vote in early election
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Early voting turnout for security forces across Iraq reached 78 percent on Thursday.
Karim Tamimi, the spokesperson for the Iraqi electoral commission, announced at press conference that the early voter turnout was 78 percent in Iraq and 61-87 percent in the Kurdistan Region.
An estimated 943,639 members of security forces were eligible to vote across the country.
There are 247,422 registered early voters in the Kurdistan Region voting in 99 polling stations.
Polls for the security forces closed at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
About 22 million Iraqis are eligible to vote. Voting abroad began on Thursday and ends on Friday. The rest of the country will vote from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
