Iraqi security forces control Falasi district in Khalidiya
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Iraqi security forces have wrested control of the Falasi district in Khalidiya in Anbar province from the Islamic State.
An Anbar police official told Rudaw that after fierce fighting, Iraqi security forces supported by tribal militants with the federal police and anti-terrorism forces took Falasi.
A source, who wished to remain anonymous, added clashes took place after ISIS launched an assault on Iraqi forces in some Anbar districts. During the clashes more than 20 ISIS fighters were killed and a number of armored vehicles were destroyed.
Despite the reported government progress, Mohamed Harat, a tribal leader, told Rudaw Islamic State fighters launched mortars at different districts in Khalidiya and the situation was getting worse.
