KDP official: ISIS mass grave found in Mosul

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A mass grave of 150 ISIS militants was found in southeastern Mosul province on Wednesday, Saeed Mamuzini, a media officer for the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s (KDP) Branch 17 branch in Mosul, told Rudaw.

Mamuzini said the grave site was found by a shepherd who was recently arrested by the Islamic State militants.

The mass grave reportedly included more than 150 bodies of ISIS fighters, mostly foreigners, buried near Mosul-Baghdad highway.

In July, another ISIS mass grave was found in northwestern Mosul province, Mamuzini said.

”The mass grave was discovered by the civilians inside Mosul [city]. The mass grave included 72 bodies of ISIS militants, mostly foreigners," he said.

“Those ISIS fighters have been killed during the US-led coalition airstrikes following Peshmerga attacks on ISIS military bases and weapons depots,” Mamuzini added.

The city of Mosul fell after an ISIS attack across much of western Iraq. The defeat was a humiliation for the Iraqi Army, with many troops known to have abandoned their weapons and uniforms as they fled the ISIS onslaught.
