Iraq provincial elections set for November 16

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Iraqis will go to the polls in provincial elections on November 16, 2019, the electoral commission announced on Sunday.

The vote had originally been scheduled for last December but was postponed after problems and delays with the parliamentary election earlier in the year.

In the May 2018 parliament election, Iraq used electronic voting for the first time – not successfully. There were reports of fraud and then prime minister froze the activities of the election commission while it was investigated. Formation of parliament was delayed for months while the drama played out.

The Kurdistan Region is also due to hold provincial elections. The Region holds its elections independent of Iraq. No date has been set yet.
