Man kills parents, sister-in-law in Iraq’s Diwaniyah
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A man on Sunday killed his parents and sister-in-law in Iraq’s southern province of Diwaniyah. The cause of the incident remains unclear. The perpetrator was later killed by his brother, a local councilor told Rudaw.
Tariq al-Barqawi, a member of the Diwaniyah Provincial Council, said the incident occurred in the Budair district of the province in the early hours of Sunday. He added that the young perpetrator was immediately killed by his brother following the mass killing.
Barqawi noted that the bodies are currently at the forensic medicine department. The cause and circumstances of the crime remain unclear. Security forces have launched an investigation into the incident.
Local police have not commented on the deadly incident.
Such incidents are common in Iraq and are often linked to social issues, including honor killings.
