Peshmerga repulse ISIS assault northwest of Mosul

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Kurdish forces backed by coalition airstrikes repulsed an ISIS assault on a main road northwest of Mosul, killing several militants, a Peshmerga commander told Rudaw on Sunday.

“The militants used two Hummers rigged with explosives to launch the assault near the villages of Abtashiya and Mahalabia close to the Aski Mosul-Kaske main road,”: said Colonel Dilshad Maulood, a Peshmerga commander on the Mosul Dam war front.

“With the help of the warplanes the Peshmerga managed to defeat the attack,” he said, adding that all the militants in the Hummers were killed in the airstrikes.

Last week, warplanes from the US-led coalition bombarded ISIS positions near the main Mosul-Tal Afar road, reportedly killing 10 of the group's militants.
