Former Iraqi VP: Liberating Mosul will end ISIS in Iraq

ISIS (Daesh) will fight to cling onto Mosul, as losing the city will mean the end of ISIS in Iraq, said former Iraq Vice-President Tariq al-Hashmi.

He believes that there are two main factors affecting the military operation against ISIS in the northern Iraqi city.

First, the Iraqi, Kurdish and coalition have far greater fire power than the ISIS militants.

Secondly, as a consequence of the first factor, ISIS will use “unconventional” tactics such as booby-traps and car bombs in an effort to hold on in the city.

Hashmi, a former Iraqi army officer, fled Iraq in 2011 when he was accused of terrorism charges under the then Shiite-dominated Iraqi government. He has since been living in exile and is currently in Turkey. He has maintained his innocence. Interpol reportedly removed Hashmi from their red notice list earlier this year.
