Preparations ‘complete’ for recapture of Tikrit

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The security committee of the Salahadin provincial council has announced that preparations for attack to recapture the ISIS-held city of Tikrit are complete.

“Salahaddin operations command, police command and the People’s Mobilization Forces [PMF] have finished preparations to start attacking ISIS militants and drive them out in Tikrit. I would say appointing a zero hour is closer than ever,” said Jasim Jabara, head of the security committee, on Saturday.

Jabbara added: “All forces have been stationed in Samara to attack Tikrit, including the People’s Mobilization Forces, the Iraqi army and security forces.”

The deputy governor of Salahaddin previously told Rudaw: “For the last two months, we have defeated many ISIS onslaughts and we managed to free the sub-districts of Alam and Dorashiyan from ISIS as a beginning for attacking ISIS in Tikrit city.”

Jabbara said: “The head of the PMF has pledged to follow up the phenomenon of destroying civilian homes in the newly liberated areas, separating the criminals from the innocent.”
