Roadside bomb attack kills two civilians in Khanaqin: Peshmerga commander

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A civilian car hit a roadside bomb in Khanaqin on Friday, resulting in the death of two people and injury of two others, a Peshmerga commander told Rudaw. 

A pickup vehicle hit a roadside bomb in Sayid Jarrad village in Diyala province’s Khanaqin district on Friday, killing two passengers and injuiring two others, Jamhur Haji Rustam, a commander of Peshmerga forces near the area, told Rudaw’s Soran Hussein. 

He added that the bomb was “most likely” planted by the Islamic State (ISIS) which has previsouly carried out similar attacks in the area. 

ISIS has not claimed responsibility for the attack but it said on its Telegram propaganda channel on Friday that it targeted a military convoy of Sunni members of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF, or Hashd al-Shaabi) in Khanaqin late Thursday, killing two and injuring three others. 

Three members of the Sunni tribal forces were killed and eight others, including civilians, were wounded in Diyala province, following an attack by ISIS fighters on Tuesday evening.

Iraq’s Intelligence Agency said on Thursday that it killed four ISIS members in Salahaddin province during an airstrike.

In its propaganda magazine on Thursday, ISIS claimed to have conducted 24 attacks in Iraq from April 7 to April 13, killing and injuring 31 people.
