Attack on Khor Mor gas field is an attack on all of Iraq: PM Sudani
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani on Thursday condemned the attack on the Khor Mor gas field in the Kurdistan Region’s eastern Sulaimani province during a phone call with the Region's Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) reported.
The KRG quoted the Iraqi Premier as “strongly condemning and denouncing the attack on the Khor Mor gas field, describing it as an assault on all of Iraq.”
The two top official decided to form a joint investigative committee "to begin work as soon as possible to identify and arrest the attackers and bring them to justice," the statement added.
Located in Chamchamal district, Khor Mor gas field is operated by Pearl Petroleum, a consortium that includes UAE-based Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum.
Dana Gas reported Thursday that production at the facility has been suspended after the site “was struck by a rocket attack” late Wednesday, confirming that “no injuries to personnel were recorded.”
Meanwhile, a senior official from Iraq’s electricity ministry confirmed to Rudaw on Thursday that "the suspension of production at Sulaimani’s Khor Mor gas field will significantly affect electricity supply in Kirkuk, Nineveh, and Salahaddin provinces."
Ahmed Mousa, spokesperson for the ministry, added that "the national grid has lost 1,200 megawatts of power" as a result of the attack.
