Deadly explosion kills military officer, police in Baghdad neighborhood

 

BAGHDAD, Iraq — A car bomb exploded in the central Baghdad neighborhood of Karada, killing several people and leaving a large fire burning late into Friday night.

 

A lieutenant colonel and two traffic police officers have been killed in the explosion, Saad Maan, Iraqi interior ministry’s spokesperson has told Rudaw, adding four were known to have been killed, and five were injured.

 

NujabaTV reported its correspondent said six people had been killed near Rasafa intersection with several others wounded.

 

The explosion has targeted Rasafa’s transportation directorate’s car park, causing damage to many police and civilian vehicles, Baghdad’s Provincial Council Member, Mohammed Rubehi announced.

 

The Israel-based i24News reported it was a car bomb in the neighborhood of Karada.

 

AFP news agency also reported an explosion had rocked central Baghdad.
