ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — The Islamic State has released video footage allegedly showing the jihadists burning alive four Hashd al-Shaabi Shiite militia members in retaliation for what the group says was the burning alive of an ISIS member by a prominent Shiite militant named Abu Azrael, ISIS’ Anbar province media office said Monday.
In the ISIS video, the group's militants show a Hashd al-Shaabi hostage video footage containing the killing of an ISIS militant earlier by Abu Azrael, before setting the four captives alight.
Three of the Hashd al-Shaabi shown are from the Shiite tribe of Ghazalin in the city of Najaf, and one of them is from the tribe of Kanan in Babil province.
Footage appearing to show Abu Azrael carving the flesh from the body of a charred ISIS fighter he burned alive has recently made the rounds on the Internet.
