UPDATED: Tens killed in suicide attack on wedding in Hasakah

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A suicide bomber targeted a wedding party in the predominantly Kurdish city of Hasakah, northern Syria. 

The death toll has risen to more than 25, with many more wounded, local journalists told Rudaw. 

The suicide bomber blew themself up inside Senabil hall on the Qamishli-Hasakah road.

Initial reports that the groom, Şêrzad Hesen, was among the dead, are false. 

The wounded have been rushed to the hospital where doctors are calling for blood donations to treat the many in critical condition. 

 

Lahur Talabani, director of the Kurdistan Regional Government's intelligence agency, condemned the attack and vowed an "unrelenting" fight against terrorism. 

 

 


Jigar Bashar Amin, the son of the ENKS (Kurdish National Council, KNC) leader, and Baha Fatima, a member of the Kurdish Democratic Union Party, are also among the dead.

The wedding was for a member of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights told AFP.

"A suicide bomber blew himself up inside a hall in Tall Tawil village during the wedding of a member of the Syrian Democratic Forces, killing at least 14 people and wounding dozens more," Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP.
