SDF says outcomes of Damascus talks to be 'formally' announced after consultations conclude

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said on Sunday that “all details and outcomes” of the meetings with Damascus will be “formally announced” once consultations conclude, indirectly responding to Syrian state media reports that the talks did not “yield tangible results.”

In a post on X, Farhad Shami, head of the SDF's media office, said that "all details and outcomes" of the meetings with Damascus "will be formally announced once consultations are complete."

He added that the discussions between the SDF and the Syrian leadership "are being conducted professionally and responsibly to ensure deliberate outcomes, with peace and stability prioritized above all," affirming that “any information circulating” beyond official announcements “do not reflect the proceedings of the meetings” with Damascus.

Shami’s remarks came hours after Syria's state-run al-Ikhbariya TV cited “an informed government source” saying that “the meetings held today in Damascus with the SDF,” attended by the forces’ chief Mazloum Abdi, within the framework of following up on the March 10 integration accord, "failed to yield tangible results that would accelerate the implementation of the agreement."

“It was agreed to hold further meetings at a later date,” the source reportedly added.

An SDF delegation, led by Abdi, arrived in Damascus earlier on Sunday to hold talks with the Syrian leadership on the ongoing process of bringing civil and military institutions in the Kurdish-led region of northeastern Syria (Rojava) under state control. The discussions are part of the March 10 Agreement reached between Abdi and Syrian interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa.

“The meeting between a delegation from the leadership of our forces, the Syrian Democratic Forces, and officials from the Damascus government in the capital has concluded as part of discussions on the process of military integration,” the SDF said in a previous statement.

Importantly, a senior SDF commander told Rudaw on Sunday that the Kurdish-led forces are set to agree on several supplemental mechanisms to the March 10 agreement with the Damascus government, including the formation of brigades for female fighters, border control, and the fight against the Islamic State (ISIS).
