Syrian forces destroy over 300 Kurdish houses in Aleppo: Official
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The ongoing attacks by Syrian state forces on the Kurdish-majority neighborhoods of Aleppo have resulted in the destruction of at least 300 houses. The ongoing clashes have also caused several deaths and dozens of injuries, a local official said on Wednesday.
“More than 300 houses have been completely destroyed or partially destroyed” and the people are staying with families," Nouri Sheikho, the co-chair of the council administrating the Kurdish-majority Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods in Aleppo, told Rudaw.
The Kurdish internal security forces (Asayish), who control both quarters, and the Syrian army have traded blame for the deadly clashes which erupted on Tuesday. Footage shared by pro-government media showed the Syrian army entering the neighborhoods late Wednesday afternoon.
“All types of weapons have been used in this war, including bombs and tanks,” Sheikho said, adding that civilians were targeted. As a result, eight people were killed and 48 others were injured, including women and children. Asayish reported that seven people had been killed and 54 injured.
He called on all Kurds in the world, including those in the Kurdistan Region, to support them.
“The intense fighting is ongoing in both neighborhoods… They have destroyed the properties of people,” the official said.
Syrian state media has also reported casualties allegedly caused by fire from Asayish forces.
