Syria condemns suspected Israeli attacks in western provinces
ERBIL, Kurdistan region - Syrian foreign ministry on Tuesday condemned suspected Israeli airstrikes on several locations in Homs and Latakia provinces, calling on the United Nations Security Council to take a “firm stance” on the "aggression."
“The Syrian Arab Republic expresses its strong condemnation of the air aggression carried out by the Israeli occupation forces targeting several sites in the provinces of Homs and Latakia, in a flagrant violation of international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter,” read a statement from the ministry.
Syrian Aerial Forces and military barracks were targeted in Homs and Latakia provinces in the overnight strikes. No casualties were reported, according to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
The war watchdog also said that “97 attacks in 2025 [were recorded]: 86 airstrikes and 11 land attacks by ground forces, during which Israel targeted several military positions and strategic facilities in different areas across Syria, destroying nearly 135 targets, including buildings, weapons and ammunitions warehouses, headquarters, centres and vehicles.”
Israel has previously justified its attacks on Syria as efforts to defend the Druze minority.
The Syrian ministry emphasized its categorical rejection of any attempts to “harm the sovereignty and national security of Syria,” and called on the UN Security Council to “stand by its legal and moral duties and take a firm stance against these repeated acts of aggression.”
Israel has not commented on the airstrikes.
According to the SOHR, which relies on an extensive network of sources within Syria, the Israeli airstrikes in Syria have resulted in the death of 61 individuals across different locations since the beginning of this year.
