Deadly explosion in Syria’s Latakia

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The number of people killed by exploding war remnants in a shop in the Syrian city of Latakia on Saturday has risen to eight.

The blast was caused by someone trying to dismantle explosives in a hardware store, according to state media SANA.

Eight people have been killed, “including three women and a girl,” said the Syrian Civil Defense, first responders known as the White Helmets.

Another 14 people were injured, including four children.

The explosion occurred on the 14th anniversary of the Syrian uprising.

Latakia is a city on Syria’s Mediterranean coast where last week reported massacres left an estimated 1,500 people dead as government-affiliated forces and armed groups responded to an attack by loyalists to the fallen Baath regime.
