Coalition condemns attempted rocket attack on Syria base
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The US-led coalition Tuesday “criticized” an attempted rocket attack on the Green Village military installation in northeast Syria (Rojava) which inflicted no casualties, marking the second attack on bases housing American forces in Syria in a day.
The Green Village base in Deir ez-Zor province was subjected to “multiple rounds of indirect fire” at 9 pm on Monday, causing no casualties or material damages.
“However, attacks like this risk both the lives of innocent civilians and important infrastructure due to their indiscriminate nature,” said Major General John Brennan, the commander of the coalition.
Brennan affirmed that such attacks would not impede the coalition from conducting their mission, which is ensuring the lasting defeat of the Islamic State (ISIS) in the region.
On Monday, the coalition thwarted a drone attack on the al-Tanf base in Syria, which caused no casualties or material damages.
There have been at least 12 rocket and drone attacks against sites housing American troops in Iraq and Syria this year, according to data compiled by Rudaw English. Such attacks are often attributed to Iran-backed militias and factions, but have never been claimed.

ISIS declared a so-called caliphate across land it controlled in Iraq and Syria in 2014 but was defeated and declared devoid of territorial control in 2017 and 2019 respectively. Despite its lack of territory, the group continues to carry out attacks against security forces and civilians.
