Suspected Turkish drone injures civilians in Rojava

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Suspected Turkish drone on Thursday targeted a civilian vehicle in Qamishli in northeast Syria (Rojava) causing injuries, locals told Rudaw.

An alleged Turkish drone hit a minibus on the Qamishli – Amouda road, locals told Rudaw.

The attack reportedly injured four people, including three women.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) also reported the incident, claiming that the drone’s target was initially a military vehicle.

There are no reports of casualties.

Ankara often targets Rojava, killing and injuring civilians and security forces.

A suspected Turkish drone killed one child in Rojava earlier this month.

Rojava saw 47 Turkish ground attacks and incursion attempts, as well as 89 drone offensives, over the past year, killing and injuring hundreds, the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said in its annual report in January.

Turkey has conducted three military operations in northern Syria since 2016, two of them against Kurdish fighters who Ankara considers a branch of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and a threat to its national security. It has been threatening a new offensive against Kurdish forces in Rojava in recent months.
