Kurdish forces announce capture of French jihadist in Raqqa

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Kurdish forces in Rojava, northern Syria announced they have arrested a French jihadist who was involved in terror attacks in Paris and Nice.

Adrian Lionel Kayali, who also goes by the nom de guerre Abu Osama, was detained in a special operation on May 19, the Kurdish-led SDF announced on Thursday. He was captured alongside his wife and group of ISIS militants.

French media have identified him as Adrien Guihal.

The SDF said he is “considered one of the most dangerous terrorists in ISIS ranks.”

He is accused of being involved in two terror attacks in France: the Paris attacks of November 13-14, 2015 when gunmen and suicide bombers carried near simultaneous attacks on a concert hall, stadium, restaurants and bars, killing 130 people, and the July 14, 2016 attack in Nice when 84 people were killed when a truck slammed through a crowd celebrating Bastille Day.

The SDF said Kayali entered Syria on March 6, 2015, crossing the border from Turkey.

He was found in Raqqa where he was in hiding looking for a way to escape to Turkey and then to Europe, the SDF stated.
