Syria’s Kurds to hold second phase of elections December 1
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The next stage of elections will be held in Rojava, northern Syria on December 1.
Over 30 parties and entities will participate in the elections of representatives for local councils, Ibrahim Ibrahim, a spokesperson for the PYD, the dominant party in the Kurdish enclave, told Reuters.
Nearly 6,000 people have registered to run across the three regions making up the semi-autonomous region, according to local media.
This is the second of three votes. The first, on September 22 saw 70 percent as voters selected leaders for 3,700 communes. A third election will be held in January to create a Northern Syria Democratic parliament.
The Kurdish administration in Rojava wants to establish a federal formula within Syria. Damascus has so far rejected the region.
