Both YPG and Syrian checkpoints control movement into E.Aleppo

ALEPPO, Syria – Aleppo is now nearly entirely under control of the Syrian army and its allied militias, except for a few neighbourhoods where the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) are in control, including the predominantly Kurdish area of Sheikh Maqsoud.

As the regime moved into eastern Aleppo, the YPG expanded its control into eastern neighbourhoods bordering Sheikh Maqsoud and welcomed an estimated 10,000 people fleeing the Syrian army’s advances.

The YPG and Syrian forces are now both operating checkpoints in the area. Citizens hoping to return to eastern Aleppo to see their homes need the permission of both forces.
