ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – A number of people are reported killed and injured in a large explosion in Afrin, northwestern Syria on Saturday, according to local media.

At least six people were killed, including a child, and 29 others injured in the blast, according to the UK-based conflict monitor Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

State-media outlet  Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) also reported 5 dead in the incident.

The North Press Agency said a car bombing took place in the city’s industrial zone.

The Kurdish enclave of Afrin fell under control of Syrian militias after a Turkish-led military operation in 2018.
