PM Barzani meets Turkish president Erdogan, PM Davutoglu in Istanbul

 ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Kurdish Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani discussed the fight against the self-styled Islamic State (ISIS) and the ongoing crisis in the region in Turkey  on Sunday with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.

Upon his visit to Turkey, Barzani met with Erdogan in Istanbul, a Turkish presidential source said.

According to that source the primary discussion between Barzani and the Turkish president was the fight against the ISIS and other recent events in the region.

Barzani has also met Turkish premier Davutoglu in private, what exactly they discussed remains unclear.

Erbil and Ankara enjoy strong economic ties, the trade between the them is estimated to be worth billions.

The last visit by Barzani to Turkey dates back to December 2015 when he met Davutoglu for talks on the regional situation and bilateral relations between Erbil and Ankara.
