Istanbul bomber was Saudi, not Syrian

The Islamic State (ISIS) suicide bomber who killed 10 tourists in a suicide attack in Istanbul's historic Sultanahmet district has been identified as a Saudi national, not Syrian as was previously claimed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

28-year-old Nabil Fadli had applied for asylum in Istanbul on January 5 according to Turkish security sources cited by the Turkish Dogan News Agency.

Police are trying to identify men they knew were with him when he applied for asylum in recent days. They also believe that his accomplices in this attack are still out there and are trying to identify the men who were known to have accompanied him on January 5.

Fadli was identified after police investigating the scene of the bombing uncovered one of the bombers intact finger tips.
