Turkey sentences 6 to life for 2016 Istanbul airport attack

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – A Turkish court sentenced six people to life in prison on Friday for the June 2016 terror attack on Istanbul’s Ataturk International Airport. 

The six suspected members of ISIS were convicted of deliberately killing 45 people, attempting to kill 142 people, and “violating the constitution,” Anadolu Agency reported.

The six convicted on Friday are Riza Coskun, Levent Uysal, Ahmet Kaplan, Eyup Demir, Ahmet Dizlek, and Djamel Slimani. 

On June 28, 2016, gunmen opened fire on passengers at the airport before blowing themselves up. 

Turkey had identified three suicide bombers as Russian, Uzbek, and Kyrgyz nationals. 

Forty-six suspects were on trial, many of them are Russians, AFP reported. 

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
