Turkey responds to cross-border rocket fire with artillery

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Turkey bombed targets just across its border in Syria on Monday in direct response to rocket fire earlier the same day that hit a school in Turkey's Kilis province, killing a woman and injuring a student.

According to Hurriyet Daily News the Turkish military determined that the fire had come from border areas in Syria in the northwestern Azaz region, controlled by the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist group.

After three Katyusha rockets hit the school, the Turkish military responded by bombarding ISIS positions across the border with artillery.

That came just days after Turkey claimed it killed 200 members of ISIS, following its bombardment of positions in both Iraq and Syria, in response to a suicide bombing in Istanbul a week ago in which 10 Germans died.
