Kurdistan PM discuss Mosul, Kurdish peace process with Turkish PM and president
ANKARA, Turkey – Kurdish Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani has met with his Turkish counterpart Binali Yıldırım in Ankara, and the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Istanbul on Wednesday and discussed the Mosul operations and bilateral relations.
Both premiers discussed the developments in Iraq, in particular the ongoing Iraqi offensive to retake Mosul from the Islamic State – where the Kurdish Peshmerga play a significant role south, east and north of the city – the state-run Anadolu Agency reported, citing an unnamed source from the Turkish Prime Ministry.
They also discussed the Kurdish peace process that collapsed last year when the Turkish government and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) resumed fighting, the Turkish Hurriyet Daily News reported.
Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) spokesperson Safeen Dizayee had told Rudaw that in his meetings with the Turkish officials PM Barzani “will tackle political, security and economic issues,” between both countries.
